Check Dis Out!
There are hundreds of dining options now in Trinidad & Tobago therefore restaurant owners are encouraged to change things up a bit every now and again. The Bill Check had the honour of attending the launch of Woodford Cafe's New Menu items and it was anything but dull. Dishes were both creative and well thought out which made me wish that I was capable of eating more. The Chef took familiar dishes and elevated it, like the Lasagna Rolls and Steak but fresh ideas crept its way on to the list like a Lamb Roll (to die for) and a Curried Chicken Chiabatta Sandwich that kicks you in the taste buds.
Well done Woodford Cafe, the new additions to your menu are innovative and yummy! A brilliant addition to the local assortment of fine dishes.
The Oriental Pearl's Media Launch was foodie heaven. Friends of the media came out in their numbers to sample what the Pearl had to offer. Located at Mid Centre Mall, Chaguanas, it seems like the residents of Chaguanas and environs acquired a gem or rather a "Pearl". With home grown entertainment, decadent food and an easy crowd, the night turned out to be a success.
Ritmos Calientes Parang and Latin Band serenaded guests at the perfect time to get us Trinis into the Christmas spirit and speaking of spirits, the decked out lounge area was the perfect space to help us fall in love with restaurant.
Lady Dragon Spicy Pork opened the season with a sizzling entrance but for those who are not lovers of pork, Chow's Spicy Chicken quickly took up the rear with just as much presence. Asian Devilish Eggs were anything but boring and guests were surprised to see it on the menu for the night. Apparently that's what The Oriental Pearl aims to do, change our narrow take on Asian food. They certainly accomplished that with the Oriental Chicken Wantons, Seasoned Butter Fried Shrimp and Honey Garlic Chicken. The spread would not be complete without something sweet, The Coconut Cream Cheese Wanton with Chocolate Sauce and a light dusting of Powdered Sugar should have been served on a pedestal, a perfect fusion of Caribbean and Asian flavours left something on the palette for you to remember.
I'm certainly looking forward to visiting The Oriental Pearl as their food seems to be in a category all its own.

What's not to love about a night like this. The finest assortment of rum in Trinidad & Tobago all under one roof. Shaker hosted with flair and patrons came out to support.
Restaurant Week in Trinidad & Tobago happens once a year and it's a chance for foodies to sample menus across the country. Special menus are created giving diners various options at a significantly reduced price. Here are some of the restaurants we visited. We started late but this is what we had.
Main Lobster in a white cream sauce
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Char Grilled Flat Iron Steal
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Split Pea Soup
A hefty portion of lobster served in the tail bathed in a creamy white sauce. The lobster was slightly overcooked but flavours and presentation made up for that. Mashed potatoes were well seasoned but basic and carrots were ever present. Well priced for portion and quality.
